Lita Roberson Obituary

Lita Therese Roberson, 72, resident of Richfield Retirement Center, Salem, passed suddenly Friday, November 28, 2008. A Chicago native, Roberson earned her masters in Ancient History from the University of Chicago. She enjoyed many Norwegian-American events and was a great patron of the arts. She most loved her Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin cabin and her grandchildren, Garth and Ransom Roberson, of Roanoke. She is predeceased by her parents, Thor and Osborg Gunderson, husband, Lt. Clyde E. Roberson, killed in action, 1958. She is also survived by her son, Clyde T. Roberson, of Roanoke and daughter-in-law, Amelia Roberson; and a cousin, Peder Madsen. Lita was a beautiful and educated woman and accomplished pianist, who loved nothing more than a good cup of black coffee and a slice of marzipan cake. Arrangements by John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, 540-389-5441.

Aunt Lita's neice, Siri Witt of Appleton, Wis. let me know about her obituary. Siri and her brother Bryan are the children of Tom and Carol Luther of Appleton, Wis. Carol pre-deceased Lita. Siri and Bryan have 4 children that are Lita's great-nieces.
I am the the oldest great -niece of Lita. My Mother, Wendy Matthews was Lita's only girl cousin. Wendy, Carol, Peder(of Norway) and Lita all grew up together in Chicago/Door County, Wis. so close....they were almost siblings.
Aunt Lita and I enjoyed a close relationship after my Mother passed in 1997. She told me great stories that I had never heard, and we laughed about fun memories from growing up in "our family". With her passing, I grieve the loss of the sound of her voice, in which I heard my Mother, my Grandmother, Tanta and Bestamor....my roots.
In my head , I hear her laugh.....

Well, I am sorry to hear of my aunt's passing - my mother Wendy was her first cousin (Peder's sister) and we spent many fond summers with her in Sturgeon Bay at the cottages on Green Bay. She was always so much fun! There are five of us (myself, my sisters Shari, Leslie, Kim and my brother Rob). Aunt Lita could always surprise us - like the time my husband and I and my sister Kim went to see her in Evanston and she serenaded us with a ukelele! She was so much fun and we will all truly miss her!

I really enjoyed getting to know Lita while she was at the Oaks at Richfield down the hall from my father. When I visited there, I spent a lot of time with Lita because we enjoyed talking about Wisconsin and she dearly loved my white German shepherd. He would look for her as soon as we entered the building. Friday morning we were at T. Stuart Payne picking out a room for our father. We saw Lita and I talked with her for awhile and she seemed to remember me and my dog. I told her my father was coming there and she said she looking forward to seeing him again. I was also looking forward to seeing Lita again when I next visited there. We saw an ambulance at Payne that afternoon---it was probably for Lita. What a shock this is. I'm sorry I never met her family.
