Marie, I was quite surprised to learn of Reuben's death. I last saw Reuben this past summer, when he came to our house to pick up the truck and take it back to Meadows Auto Center. I did not recognize him. After he told me who he was we had a very nice conversation talking about the days when my Grandmother and his mother used to vist with each other. He talked about the days when he and my mother were growing up there in the Cotton Patch Road area.
I extend my sympathy to you and your family.

I was 4 or 5 years old the first time I met Reuben. My mother, grandmother, and I were visiting Reuben and Marie and I had wandered into the living room and Reuben had just gotten home at the end of the day and was sitting in his chair. I was very shy when I was young, but he eventually made me feel comfortable and also made me feel that he was really enjoying talking to me. As was wonderfully noted at his service today, Reuben had a soft heart for children and animals. Even though we didn't see each other that often over the years, I've often thought about our first meeting and I loved him.

I met Mr. Midkiff when I bought my van, if it were not for him I would not have bought it. I enjoyed going to Meadows Auto Center and just talking to him. He will be truly missed. My prayers and thought are with you and your family.

I remember Reuben making dry remarks to my Daddy and actually getting him to laugh!!! My Mom used to tell the story of how Reuben would drive a dump truck and our dog Brutus would sit beside him and growl at anyone who came near the truck. I loved him, and I'm sorry for your loss.
