Pamela Staats Obituary

Today, we honor the loving memory of Pamela Hall Staats who departed this world on Thursday, December 4, 2008, to meet her Heavenly Father and earthly father above. Born on December 13, 1956, Pam loved her family deeply and served her church and community well. She was preceded in death by her father, James P. "Buddy" Hall, of Buena Vista. She is survived by her husband and soul mate, Larry Wayne Staats, of Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Hall Dorey and Brent Dorey, of Lexington; two grandsons, Alden Parrish Dorey and Kellan James Dorey; her mother Doris "Sissy" Huffman Hall, of Buena Vista; a sister and brother-in-law, Clarissa Jo Tomlin and Randy Tomlin, of Glasgow; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Rosemary Staats, of Cool Ridge, W.Va., and Danny Staats, of Buena Vista, Va. Also remembered are two special friends, Kaye Ramsey and Ginger Webb, both of Buena Vista. Pam was an active member of the Calvary Brethren Church serving on the church board and as treasurer. She was a life member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad, serving 23 years. She was in the Top Ten Most Calls Answered for 20 consecutive years and was the only female Captain elected to that position. She was employed for 32 years by the City of Buena Vista Finance Department. She was also a life member of the Virginia Jaycees. Pam was an encourager and motivator to everyone whose life she touched. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will be meeting with friends and family on Friday, December 5, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Brethren Church in Buena Vista. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Calvary Brethren Church with burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvary Brethren Church for the Larry Coleman Building Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Gross and Lotts of Buena Vista, Va.

The first time I ever met Pam she made me laugh. She filled a room when she walked in it with her big heart and joyful personality. Right to the end her concern was not for herself but for her family. She was blessed with a wonderful loving family that stood by her. My heart and prayers go out to each of them. Now she is with her heavenly family. Somehow I just feel she made them all laugh upon her arrival. I saw a movie recently - in it a child had lost someone close to him. He was told that whenever someone dies a new star appears in the sky for that person. The night after Pam went "home" I saw a giant star with brilliant beams of light glowing in four directions around that star. I had never seen anything quite like it. I thought of Pam and that it was only natural that her star would light up the sky and be very special, just like she was.

I can't begin to express what Pam meant to me, she was a dear friend who taught me so much about living life to the fullest. We did not have much opportunity to get together over the past few years, but when we did, it was just like we were never apart. She is an inspiration in the way she lived her life - for God, for family, for friends, and for her community. I thank God for sharing Pam with us. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4.

It is always difficult to find the correct words to say, during these difficult moments, often the words spoken from the heart, just can not be conveyed verbally. So, I will just let you know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. Pam had a spirit that was beyond inspirational, a smile that would brighten even the gloomiest day and a sparkle of the eyes that lit up the room. I am saddened she has left us, but I take comfort in knowing that Heaven just received the most special Angel of all and that she will forever live in our hearts and memories.

Pam's dedication to her family and her community is certainly a model to which the rest of us should aspire. Her faith and determination have made an impression on us all. She will remain a part of all who knew her even though her physical presence will be missed. May God be with you at this empty time.

It is with a heavy heart for your entire family that I offer my deepest sympathy. I knew Pam all of my life, and I never knew someone so dedicated to all that she did. In her last few months, she was one of the most inspiring people I knew; a fighter, an encourager, and always thinking of other people and asking about them. These next months will be an enormous test of faith, strength and courage, but as I learned through the loss of my mother, only God can hold you up and provide these things for you. Just look to Him, and let Him comfort and guide you to the peace Pam would want you to find.

God Bless You,
Susan
