Woodrow Nolley Obituary

Woodrow Wilson (Jess) Nolley, 95, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008. He was born in Montgomery Co., son of the late George Thomas and Sally Price Nolley. He moved from Montgomery Co. to Thorpe, W.Va. when he was five years old until he was 20 years old. After doing odd jobs for 15 years, he moved to Roanoke and worked 25 years for Wilson and Co. He served in the United States Army During World War II in the 26th Infantry Div. He fought in four major battles including Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, and attained the rank of Tech. Sgt. He returned to Roanoke where he was self employed for 30 years. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed hiking, traveling and photography. In addition to his parents, his six brothers, Rangley R. Nolley, John T. Nolley, Charles R. Nolley, Armester Nolley, George William Nolley and Oakey E. Nolley; and his two sisters, Callie Hedge and Ellie Rose, also preceded him in death. His survivors include many nieces, nephews and friends; and a special friend, Anna May Lucas, of Roanoke. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, the Pastors Eddie King and Bill Logan will officiate. Interment will follow with Military Honors by the DAV Honor Guard at Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.

WE WILL MISS MR NOLLEY AT HART MOTOR CO. HE WAS NOT ONLY A GOOD CUSTOMER BUT WE THOUGHT OF HIM AS A TRUE FRIEND. GOD BLESS AND GOD SPEED TO OUR BUDDY AND ONE DAY WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN .

Uncle Jess was a good man and a close friend. He was always very generous to his family and we will miss him. I will always remember as a child going to visit him in Roanoke.
