Shirley Hartman Obituary

Shirley Mae Hartman, 68, of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away early Saturday morning, December 6, 2008, at her home. She was born on August 31, 1940, a daughter of the late Tony and Florence "Glennie" Hartman. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Howard Hartman, J.B. Hartman and Walter J. "Jr." Hartman; sister and brotherin-law, Mary Louise and Jeff Holley; and nephew, Travis Richards. She is survived by her loving daughter, Penny Carol Hartman, of the home; brother and special friend, Glenn D. Hartman Sr. and Peggy Housman; sister and brotherin-law, Shelby Jean and Coy Richards; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hartman, all of Rocky Mount; many nieces, nephews and special friends. Shirley never met a stranger, her friendship and love was truly genuine. She dedicated her life to her daughter and her family. Christmas time was very special to Shirley, not only did she celebrate the birth of Jesus, but celebrating with family and friends really made her happy. So what better time for Shirley to go home than now; to celebrate a birthday with Jesus himself, who could ask for anything more. Shirley was a simple person who loved the simple things in life. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, from Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Gore officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Monday with her family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va.
