Filmore Cassell Obituary

Filmore Hicks Cassell, 86, of Ceres, Va., passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008, in the Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, Va. Mr. Cassell was born in Ceres, Va., to the late Davis Cassell and Pearl Cox Cassell and was a member of the Red Oak Union Church, the Ceres Ruritan Club and the Ceres Alumni Association. Mr. Cassell was a veteran of the United States Army having fought in the Battle of Normandy and was retired from the Brunswick Corporation with over 32 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marie Kidd Cassell; his children and their spouses, Harold and Linda Cassell, of Roanoke, Iris and Maynard Gardner, of Wytheville, Eugene Cassell, of Wytheville, Arleene and Reggie White, of St. Augustine, Fla., Arnold and Donna Cassell, of Ceres, Carlton and Betty Cassell, of Ceres, and Valerie and Jerry Mutter, of Ceres; grandchildren, Tim Cassell, Ty Cassell and wife, Christy, Eric Gardner and wife, Cheyenne, Heather Gardner and husband, Andy, Jason Gardner, Adam Gardner, Scott White, Ben White, Daniel White, Christopher Cassell, Shawn Cassell, Michael Cassell, Kimberly Cassell, and Jenna Mutter; great-grandchildren, Cayla Cassell, Madelyn Cassell, Austin Gardner, Micah Gardner, Holly Gardner, and Highlynn Gardner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Red Oak Union Church with the Rev. Will Shelton and the Rev. Kathy Haga officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors being rendered. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Red Oak Union Church, 3606 Old Wilderness Road, Ceres, Va. 24318 or to the Red Oak Cemetery Fund, 7009 W. Blue Grass Trail, Ceres, Va. 24318. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bardleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, Va., is serving the Cassell family.
