Clarence Bondurant Obituary

Clarence Randolph (Buddy) Bondurant, 74, of Plantation Road, Martinsville, Va., passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Va. He was the only child of Clarence (Todd) and Helen Stone Bondurant, both deceased. Buddy was born and lived his life in Martinsville. He attended Martinsville High School where he was active in football and basketball. Upon graduation in 1953, he attended the University of Richmond and National Business College. Buddy served two years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1959 he returned to Martinsville and joined the family business, Bondurant Tractor Company. He was president from 1972 until his retirement in 1987. In 1974 he was president of the Virginia Farm & Industrial Dealers Association. He was a charter member and past president of the Chatmoss Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Martinsville Kiwanis Club. Buddy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Carpenter Bondurant, of the home; his three daughters, Katherine B. Cuppia, of Bluffton, S.C., Carolyn B. McCoy and her husband, Tim, of Wellesley, Mass., and Patricia B. Russell and her husband, David, of Greenville, S.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kristen and James Cuppia, of South Carolina, and Charlotte, Elisabeth and Patrick McCoy, all of Wellesley, Mass. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services Chapel. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008, at Christ Episcopal Church, Martinsville, Va. The family will be at the home on Plantation Road, Martinsville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 4162, Martinsville, Va. 24115, Boys Home, Inc., 306 Boys Home Road, Covington, Va. 24226 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Martinsville, Va., is in charge of arrangements. On line condolences may be made at www.norrisfuneral.com. Honorary Pall Bearers are Sutton Flythe, Ran Isley, Sonny Benfield, Bill Jones, Don Deaton
Helmut Hauger, and George (Jinx) Morris.
