Douglas Crowder Obituary

Douglas Ray Crowder, 72, of Fincastle, Va., passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Doug was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a master electrician who retired from Roanoke Cement Corporation. He was a life member of the Fincastle Baptist Church and continued to support other veterans as a member of the VFW Post #1841. Doug was predeceased by his father, Otho Ephraim (Oat) Crowder; and his mother, Mildred C. Fisher. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Mary S. (Marge) Crowder; son, Timothy D. Crowder and his wife, Lisa; daughter, Kim Crowder-Austin; grandchildren, T.J., Matt, Elijah, and Wyatt; brother, Thurman D. Crowder and his wife, Jean; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Friends are welcome to call Saturday, December 13, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville, where a service celebrating Doug's life will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2008, in Rader's Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Cummings and Chaplain Marvin Barbre officiating. Interment will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Rader Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Daleville, Va.

Marge, Tim, and Kim,

I was very saddened to learn of Doug's passing... There aren't enough words to describe the magnitude of this loss and the inevitable heartache that everyone that knew Doug has and will endure. For the short time that I knew him, I admired him and his unwavering devotion to his family. I consider it nothing short of a privledge to have had the opportunity to speak with him, laugh with him, and watch him interact with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed...
