David Payne Obituary

David Lylburn (Pee Wee) Payne, 56, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Goodview, Va., suddenly went home to rest on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Pee Wee was the eighth son of nine children born to John Dayton Payne and Lottie Mae Lipscomb Payne. He was educated in the Bedford County School System where he graduated from Staunton River High School. The majority of his adult life he was employed with Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Pee Wee was preceded in death by his father, John Dayton; and brothers, Johnny, Glenwood, Wallace, Mack, Theodore and Joseph, all who are in heaven to see him home. He leaves to rejoice in his memory his mother, Lottie Payne Murphy; one sister, Wanda P. Morgan, both of Goodview, Va.; one brother, Kenneth Michael Payne, Roanoke, Va.; one brother-in-law, Milligan (Mickey) Morgan, of Goodview, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Frances (Cookie) Payne and Geneva H. Payne, both of Roanoke, Va.; a very special and devoted friend, Dorcas Williams, of Roanoke, Va.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Brian Davis officiating. The interment will be in the Payne Family Cemetery, Goodview. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2008, for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. I was very sorry to learn of Lylburn's passing. I have some fond memories of him during our days at Stewartsville and Staunton River. In the 7th grade I wanted to be a bus patrol but there was no spot for me, so he would let me take his place sometimes. He was truly a great guy. Rhonda Williams Laprad
