Lillie Hubbard Obituary

Lillie Ann McGrady Hubbard, 88, died on Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Raleigh, N.C. Ann was born on May 8, 1920, to William Lisca and Mirtie Smith McGrady. She was raised in Roanoke, Va., with her six brothers. Ann attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., majoring in business education. In 1941 she married Richmond native, Harry Hubbard, a Chaplain with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Their 20 moves included being stationed in Hampton, Va., from 1956 to 1958. Following Harry's retirement they returned to Hampton in 1973 where they resumed friendships and active service with Hampton Baptist Church. Ann enjoyed working as an administrative secretary with Hampton City Schools where her hard work and resourcefulness resulted in assignments with numerous departments and schools. She moved to Magnolia Glen retirement facility in Raleigh, N.C., in 2003 where she continued to earn the love and respect of many. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Harry ,in 1990 and her grandson, Robert Allen Hubbard, in 1993. She is survived by her children, Harryet Wallace and husband, Robert Boulster, of Glen Burnie, Md., Frank and wife, Barbara Hubbard, of Collinsville, Va., Sue and husband, John Ramsay, of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary Jane and husband, Keith Leckrone, of Hampton, Va. Her love of family extended to her grandchildren who will miss her ever present encouragement. They include Lisa, Brian and Rachael Wallace, Daniel and wife, Teresa Hubbard, Carter and wife, Margot, Elizabeth Ramsay, and Kyle and Brice Leckrone. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27608 by the Reverend Dr. Arthur Ross III. The family requests memorial gifts be made to White Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Building Fund of Hampton Baptist Church, 40 Kings Way, Hampton, Va. 23669.
