Anna Wild Obituary
Anna Marie Wild, born Anna Marie Martens to Finn and Marie Martens in Chicago, Illinois, August 7, 1926, died at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center on January 19, 2009, after a protracted illness. Anna is survived by her husband, Jack; children, Lynda Chappell and Larry Wild; her grandchildren, Dale Chappell, Jamé Affeldt and Jason Wild; and her greatgrandchildren, Morgan, Madison, and Rylee Affeldt and Cooper and Madilyn Chappell. Anna met and married her husband of 63 years, Jack Wild, in Sioux City, Iowa in 1944/45. After the war Anna became a stay-at-home wife and mother to her two children. During the years her children were growing up Anna was active in their youth and school activities. Most notably: room mother (many times), Chairman of the PTA, and leader for the Camp Fire Girls in Dayton, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Olney, Maryland. Anna also served two terms as Chairman of the Montgomery County, Maryland Camp Fire Girls Council. After her children left home Anna began a new career as a florist and floral designer. She excelled in this field and she especially loved designing beautiful floral arrangements. In 1986 Anna and Jack moved to Huddleston, Va. on the banks of Smith Mountain Lake. Anna became an active member of Palestine Baptist Church in 1988. She taught Sunday school and volunteered on the Church Hospitality Committee for many years. Anna and Jack moved to Vinton, Va. in 1997 where they joined Villa Heights Baptist Church. Anna served several terms as Deaconess when Jack was an active Deacon. She also served as Chairman of the Flower Committee. This gentle, loving Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and friend will be missed by all who have touched her life or have been touched by her. God bless you and keep you. Reception will be held at Villa Heights Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery, Huddleston, Va.
