Roy Thompson Obituary

Roy Lee Thompson Sr., 69, of Goodview, Va., passed into eternal rest on Thursday, January 22, 2009, after an extended illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Nellie Thompson; and his in-laws, Cline and Effie Reynolds. Roy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Lou Reynolds Thompson; his children, Peggy (Dennis) Stump, of Goodview, Cyndi (Marc) Agrali, of Gainesville, Va., and Roy Lee Thompson Jr., of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Stump, of Appomattox, Justin Stump, of Chesapeake, Haylee Stump, of Goodview, Jayden Thompson, of Roanoke, and his mother, Tonya Payne; one brother, Walt (Delores) Thompson, of Roanoke; three sisters, Sue Thompson, of Cloverdale, Nancy Mason, of Roanoke, and Ellen (Chuck) Salmon, of Pearisburg; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Sowers, of Roanoke, and Harriett Duke, of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his three special dogs, Droopy, Ginger, and Gizmo. Roy was a Warehouse Manager at Kenney's and retired from Carolina Steel. He loved farming, especially raising cattle and using his tractor to help friends and neighbors. Many times after he became sick, he was doing different things to help his friends. The family would like to thank all the compassionate caregivers that assisted Roy. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Oakey's East Chapel. Interment will follow in Daleville Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 23, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel, Bonsack, 540-977-3909.

I remember that when we moved next door to Roy that our dog Gizmo would spend so much time at Roy's house that Gizmo just had to pack his bags move in.
Roy was such a nice man that he would give his arm off his body for you. If you needed anything You could always count on Roy.
I pray that God sprays Grace on the family.

I helped take care of Roy each time he was admitted to Lewis Gale and he and Betty were always so sweet! Roy would always smile at me, even when he didn't want to. My deepest symapthies to the family and God love all of you!
