Sidney Hall Obituary

Sidney Christopher Hall, 88, of Glade Hill, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 22, 2009. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart and many other medals. He was a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church since March 27, 1953, serving as deacon, usher, and many years and as greeter. Mr. Hall was a member of Woodman of the World and VFW Post #10840, and retired from farming and Perdue Sawmill of Glade Hill, Va. A son of the late Owen Henry Hall and Annie Hubbard Hall, he was born on December 23, 1920, in Franklin County, Va. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Hall; and his sisters, Ruby Hall McBride and Hazel Hall Maxey. Surviving are his wife of 59 years (April 19, 2009), Fannie Mattox Hall; special nephew, David G. Robertson and friend, Regina Chaney; special sister-in-law, Alvia Mattox Robertson; his sister and brother-in-law, Annie Viola and L.G. Cassell, of Martinsville, Va.; brothers, Carl Hall, Terry Hall and wife, Doris, of Rocky Mount, and Van N. Hall and wife, Faye, of Linden, Texas; and many, many other nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Mr. Hall was a friend to every one he met. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009, from Glade Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. David Long officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Glade Hill Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va.

We loved Sidney very much, his was a happy face, that brightened every day you came in contact with him, always smiling and always had a funny little saying to make you smile. We will miss him very much.
