David Knighton Obituary

David L. Knighton, 64, of Ruckersville, Va., departed this life on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Martha Jefferson Hospital after being ill for some time. He put up quite a fight but was defeated in the end. He was born on April 19, 1944, in Covington, Va., the son of the late George D. and Helen I. Knighton. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John H. Hannabass Sr.; grandson, Brice X. Gordon; and brother-inlaw, Gene Bocook. David was a hunter and fisherman for many years. He was a member of the Float Fisherman of Virginia, as well. He also supported and was a committee member for Boy Scout Troop #174 in Ruckersville, Va. He retired from the University of Virginia after 25+ years of service. He was a prosthetic technician, a job he truly loved. During his employment in the Department of Prosthetic and Orthotics, he helped many patients with artificial limbs. He met quite a few that he remembered for years. He is survived by his wife of 21 years and the love of his life, Patricia A. Knighton; two sons, Joseph H. Gordon, of Ruckersville, Va., and Phillip M. Gordon and wife, Susanna, of Torrence, Calif.; one daughter, Tiffany M. Gordon and husband, Jason A. Hancock, of Torrence, Calif.; two grandsons who were the apple of his eye, Jeffrey A. Hancock, of Stanardsville, Va., and Quintin P. Gordon, of Torrence, Calif.; one sister, Bonnie Bocook, of Roanoke, Va.; mother-in-law, Betty "Granny" Hannabass, of Roanoke, Va.; three brothers-in-law, John Hannabass and his wife, Judy, of Vinton, Va., Rick Hannabass and his wife, Laurie, of Culpeper, Va., and Frank Hannabass and his wife, Marie, of Salem, Va.; one sister-in-law, Alice Worley and her husband, Jeff, of Salem, Va.; one aunt, Edith Terry, of Covington, Va.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009, at the Teague Chapel. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the ICU and 5 South staff at MJH for the wonderful care that was provided to David. A special thank you goes to Dr. Hammond, Dr. Willims, and the many other doctors and respiratory therapists that provide excellent care, as well as the friends that have been so loving and caring. Family and friends may sign the guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.

My prayers and thoughts are with
the Knighton family. I worked with
David at the Prosthetic shop at UVA
back in 1976 for a couple years.
David was always very nice to me
and seemed to care what was going
on in my life each day. He loved
the patients he worked with each day and always had a smile for them.
