Milton Simmons Obituary

Milton W. (Mickey) Simmons, 74, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 23, 2009. He was born on December 16, 1934, in Roanoke County and was the son of the late George Alfred and Mary Parr Simmons. He worked in the plaster business for 48 years and, after retirement, Mickey went to work at Walmart in the pet department. He enjoyed watching movies and collecting Avon bottles as well as other old objects. In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by three children, an infant son, Randy Simmons, and Gary Simmons; six brothers; and six sisters. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Simmons; son, Larry Simmons and wife, Brenda; brother, Bobby Simmons and wife, Shirley; sister, Elsie Staples; four grandchildren, Michelle and husband, Tommy, Paul, Liza, and Matthew and fiancé, Danyelle; 12 greatgrandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy Simmons; special friend of the family, Anthony Stevens; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009, in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son with the Chaplain Marvin Barbre officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 25, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their help and support during this time. The Simmons family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son, Salem, 540-389-5441.
