Charles Vaught Obituary

Charles Richard (Dickie) Vaught, 66, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009, in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in WinstonSalem, N.C. He was born in Wythe Co., Va. on July 31, 1942, the son of the late Charles Walker "Jenkie" Vaught and Rosa Heldreth Vaught. Dickie was a member of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge # 226 A.F. & A.M., of Rural Retreat, and was preceded in death by a son, Derick Shayne Vaught. He is survived by two sons, Brian Walker "Cheeseburger" Vaught, of Rural Retreat, Richie Vaught and wife, Chelle Vaught, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Denisa Lynn Vaught, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren, Brianna Butler, Marissa Butler, Blaine Walker Vaught; two sisters, Doris Buchanan, of WinstonSalem, N.C., Linda Porter and husband, Jerry, of Cripple Creek, Va.; one brother, Ronnie Vaught and wife, Vickie, of Blythewood, S.C.; special friends, June Smith, of Rural Retreat, Niki Jones , of Wytheville, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday evening January 26, 2009, at the Lindsey Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tim Worgan officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery with Masonic Rites being conducted by Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge # 226. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service. The family suggests that those who prefer make memorials to the Wythe County Sheriff's Office D.A.R.E. Program, 245 South 4th St., Wytheville, Va. 24382. The family would like to extend great appreciation to the Pallative Care Unit at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for all the acts of kindness and care extended to our loved one and family. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va. is handling the arrangements.

Cheese, Your dad was one of my favorite people in the area. He delivered fuel to us for years, and was the same gentleman every day. He gave me some of the best advice of my life when I was going thru a tough time. Keep your chin up, Dickie is smiling on ya!
