Marvin Hobson Obituary

Mr. Marvin Franklin Hobson, 89, of Martinsville, Va., died Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital. He was born August 4, 1919, in Martinsville, son of the late John Hobson and Gracie Davis Hobson. He was also predeceased by a sister, Thelma Hobson. He was owner of Hobson Electric Company for 54 years, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, Chairman Emeritus of the Trustee Board, Usher Board; American Legion Post 78; and a member of the Masonic Lodge #111. He is survived by his wife, Bessie S. Hobson, of the home; daughter, Marvina H. Edwards, Grand Prairie, Texas; son, Johannes Hobson of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service and all other times at the residence. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. William A. Shackleford Sr. officiating. Interment in Hobson-Williams Family Cemetery, Whispering Pine Road, Axton, Va. Arrangements by Hairston Funeral Home, Martinsville.
