Iris Peterson Obituary

Iris Mowles Peterson, 84, of Salem, Va. passed away to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2009. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond (Pete) W. Peterson, Jr.; her parents, William H. and Mary E. Mowles; her sisters, Thelma M. McGhee, Agnes M. Vaught and Hazel M. Cronise; and a brother, W. H. Mowles, Jr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was an active member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, serving on several committees, member of the Anne Vaughan Sunday School Class, Morning Circle, Salem Woman's Club, serving as Corresponding Secretary for many years, Salem Historical Society and a Docent for the Salem Historical Museum. She did volunteer work for the Salem Food Pantry and the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was an active member of the Pilot Club International, serving on the Board of Trustees. She served as Secretary of the American Legion Post #19 for many years. She was a former member of the Salem Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Salem Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Janet Denton officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009, at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem
