I've just learned of this tragedy and am shocked and saddened. I met Jess in the early 90's while I was working at GMAC. Jess was quick to call me out on the corporate B.S. and taught me some life lessons in the car business! We became friends over time, drank a beer or two, and he taught me some awesome Greadful Dead tunes on the guitar! I moved away and didn't keep in touch over time, but I'll always remember his positive spirit! I'm very sorry to hear of this loss.

Words can not express the sorrow I feel in the loss of my cousin, Jeff. I have so many fond memories of Jeff. We spent many Christmas and Easter holidays together at Grandma's house. Jeff was so full of life and so fun to be around. My only regret is that we did not stay in touch as we should have. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Uncle Jess, Aunt Gayle, Susan, Cathy, and those precious children, Tyler and Lance. My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. I love you...Dana

Whenever we think of Jeff memories flood our minds and smiles and sometimes laughter comes about because he was just that type of person. Warm, welcoming, humorous for the benefit of others, generous and kind. Jeff touched our lives in his actions and words and we will miss him. Lucky us to be able to hold those memories of him that bring us happiness....thank you Jeff, we love you.
Tyler, Lance, Tammie and others who loved him - our prayers and thoughts are with you constantly these days. We love you too.

Jess was truly a wonderful and unique person. I'll never forget his wicked sense of humor.

We laughed for 2 days straight in Atlantic City. Even through all of the personal things he had been through, he never once said a harsh word toward his circumstance.

The man was loved by all of his co-workers here in Harrisonburg and will be sorely missed.

Dear Jess, Gail and family,
There are no words to express our feelings at a time like this. I know you must have enjoyed raising Jeff and you must cling to these memories.
He and my daughter, Sara, went to Pizza Hut one time he was visiting Stella and she will always remember what fun they had and what a nice guy he was.
Please allow our Lord Jesus to carry you through this time and the future. He is the only one who can and He is always there for us. I have found it to be so.

I've only known Jess for a year...we dated off an on from January thru August...I just wish i could have been a better friend to him these last few months...he was a joy to know with such a silly sense of humor, a beautiful smile that made his eyes disappear (and my heart skip a beat), and a tremendous gift of music...i will be forever grateful for having known him...it just was not long enough...
my deepest, heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends, but most especially to Tyler and Lance...he talked about you two all the time and loved you with a heart and a half...never, ever doubt that...now he's your guardian angel...
goodbye sweet Jess..you will be greatly missed..

I met Jess 5 years ago when I came to work here in Mechanicsville. I also had the pleasure of meeting many members of Jess' family, his dad, brother, sister and brother-in-law, and was flattered that Jess thought enough of me to allow me to work with some of you. I did occassionally hear from him after he moved to Harrisonburg, when we would exchange an e-mail joke or greeting. In fact I heard from him only a week ago Sunday. I only knew Jess a short time but I will miss him and think of him often. My thoughts and prayers are with him and all the members of his family.

Uncle Jess is setting up a fund called Jess E. Fleming Jr. Children's Educational Fund today at Sun Trust Bank so be sure to check on that in lieu of flowers.

I believe we can never be so lost that we can not be found by Jesus, and through the love he offers, we can overcome any obstacle. I believe the storms of our life can make us stronger, and draw us closer to God whose love is limitless and available to all. I believe God can use each choice we make for the ultimate good and the most loving outcome. Our faith will uphold us through this terrible tragedy as we miss our dear Jeff who brought our family so much happiness and many laughs. My prayer is that we continue to shower Tyler and Lance in agape love and support as well as each other. I carry my family in my heart and I love you all. Blessed are they who mourn for they will be comforted. In prayer, Mitzi, Larry, Janna and Wesley Pate in League City, Texas
