John Lawson Obituary

John Ellis Lawson, 89, a resident of Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009, after a long illness. He was born and raised in Patrick County, Va., the son of the late Turner and Agnes Lawson. He was a proud World War II Veteran. He spent most of his adult life in Pueblo, Colo., where he owned the Lawson Television Sales and Repair Company. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie; a daughter, Diana Sue; three brothers; and four sisters. Surviving sisters and brothersin-law, Irene and Earl Simpson, of Martinsville, Va., Lila Buchanan, of Austin, Texas, Wilma and Al Padgett, of Baltimore, Md., and Clara and Larry Desper, of Cloverdale, Va.; sister-in-law, Arlene Lawson, of Christiansburg, Va.; brother-inlaw, Warren Harris, of Pulaski County, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. Interment to follow in the Lawson Cemetery, Meadows of Dan, Va., with Military Rites by Patrick County Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meadows of Dan VFW Post #8467, c/o of Rex Faris, 333 Burnett Road, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120. Irene, I am sorry you have lost your brother, but I know you realize that your loss is his gain. I'm sorry I can't be at the funeral this afternoon but have arrangements with others to be out of town.
