Gloria Morris Obituary

Gloria Mae Kreider Morris, of Salem, Va., entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the age of 80, due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Petersburg, Va., the oldest child of John David and Ruby Daniel Kreider. Gloria later moved to Roanoke where she met and married the love of her life, George Tillman Morris. She attended Belmont Baptist for many years and was currently a member at Bethel Baptist Church. She worked many years part-time for Sears and retired from the Roanoke Times in 1991. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, George Tillman Morris; and one sister, Nina Jean Kreider. Family members surviving Gloria include three sons, Jimmy (Susie) Morris, Ray (Connie) Morris, and Barry (Marty) Morris; brothers, John (Martha) Kreider and Wayne (Linda) Kreider; one sister, Marion Flaherty, of Ruther Glen Va.; loving grandchildren, Brian (Nikki) Morris, Becky Morris, Sarah (Ryan) Correll, Jason Updike, Lindsey Morris, and Zane Morris; and adored greatgrandchildren, Leanna Morris, Ally Morris and Tyler Correll; brother-in-law and wife, Fred and Dot Morris, of Salem; and sisters-in-law, June Morris, of Roanoke, and Juanita Minnix, of Pennsylvania. Gloria is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including one very special friend, Betty Stiff, of South Carolina; and a special care giver, Lois Lynch, of Vinton. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son in Salem. A funeral service and time of fellowship will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009, at John M. Oakey & Son Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 8349, Charlottesville, Va. 22906-8349 or the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.
