Ruth Wyatt Obituary

Ruth Craighead Wyatt, 90, of Roanoke, departed this life peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2009. She was born August 12, 1918, to the late Mack and Blanche Brackett Craighead in Vinton, Va. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Johnson Wyatt; brothers, Robert, Luke and Henry Craighead; sisters, Christine C. Hurt, Ernestine C. Hairston and Flora C. Braxton; one niece, Cecelia H. Hicks. She is survived by one brother, Mack E. Craighead Jr.; a devoted sister-in-law, Virgie Craighead; devoted brothers-in-law, Arthur Cooper and Leroy Wyatt; three devoted nephews, Leon Craighead, Arthur Cooper and Edward Cooper. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including the Ferguson's, Adams and Ayers families. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Edward T. Burton officiating. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Friends may call on Tuesday afternoon for viewing at HamlarCurtis Funeral Home. The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will have their Omega Omega Service, 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at HamlarCurtis Funeral Home.
