Cosom Thomas Obituary

The funeral for Cosom (Cosmo) Thomas, 83, of Martinsville, Va., who died Friday, February 20, 2009, will be held at Stone Memorial Christian Church on Monday, February 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Minister Tim Wood and Minister Lawrence Harris officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Abbey. Visitation will be held at Norris Funeral Services, Sunday, February, 22, 2009, 7 to 9 p.m. Cosom was born November 3, 1925, in McComas, W.Va., a son of the late John and Pearl Quesenberry Thomas. He was preceded in death by brothers, Pete Thomas, Clifford Thomas, Jesse Thomas and sisters, Josephine Bohin and Gladys Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gerotha "Gerri" Collins Thomas; daughter, Toni Nagy; granddaughter, Nikki Simonson, of Richmond; greatgrandchildren, Codi Simonson, Cheyanne Simonson and Dixon Cook, of Richmond. He is also survived by brother, Larry Thomas, of Radford; nieces, Petey Jo Condron, of W. Paterson, N.J., Ann Beth Barber, of South Boston; nephews, Michael Bohin, of Ripon, Calif., Richard Thomas, of Smith Mountain Lake, and several other nieces and nephews; and his caregivers, Jerry and Bonnie Hatchett. Cosom retired from Bassett Furniture Industries as shipping superintendent in 1990. Prior to 1969, he worked for Roy Stone Transfer. He was a Veteran of World War II in the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stone Memorial Christian Church, 3030 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, Va. 24078. We will all miss my Uncle, and a wonderful man. He has touched the lives of so many and will live in our memory forever, I want to thank all of the wonderful people who helped in making this sad event so easy, the Norris Funeral Home and the Stone Christian church, I especially want to thank the Martinsville VFW who graced us with their presence. I love you Uncle and will see you in the next life
