I'm so sorry to hear this. Mrs Hughes was such a wonderful person and so good to everyone she knew. I worked for Robin and Valerie at Merry Makers when it was open and we used to make things for her. She would brag on us and give us all sort of kind words. I will always remember her and be in prayer for her family. I know this is a great loss for you all.

Merrily, Suzanne, Lee, Charles, and Jerry,
I was so saddened to hear of your mother's passing. I have such fond memories of her and Dr. Hughes. I especially enjoyed all the many out of town ballgames I attended with them, and remember how mad Mrs. Hughes would be when the refs made a bad call! I spent many weekends at your house, and I was privileged to have done so. Your mother was a wonderful person, and was loved by so many. I am deeply saddened by her passing, but so enriched by her life.

I am so sorry to learn just now of Mary Austin's passing. Reading the newspaper clipping brought back a flood of memories of sitting on the front porch, drinking tea, hearing of Brock's fishing adventures, and watching Mary Austin sitting and smiling at maybe the 100th retelling of the huge largemouth that Brock had landed. My deepest sympathies go out to all the Hughes and Campbells at this time. You all will be in my heart and prayers tonight and forever.

Dear Hughs Family,

I was so sorry to read of your Mother's passing. I have fond memories of her. I worked for Merry Makers when it was open and we used to make special things for her. She was always so kind and grateful for what we did. After we closed, she would call me at home to ask if I would make things for her. I will never forget her. May God comfort you all in your hour of grief and as you celebrate her life.

Hi Gang, I have lots of fond Hughes memories including, "Country Sausage" at Christmas, the squishing of leaves and mud between my toes when swimming in the lake on the mountain, getting eggs from the chicken coop, running through the orchard, playing on rafts in the waves at Virginia Beach and building sand castles. My most vivid and important memory however is from the summer when Brock saved my life when he assured my parents and grandmother, Aunt Virginia, that I would grow up just fine without eating vegetables and would survive quite well on what I liked to eat which, at the time, was peanut and jelly sandwiches! It has been fun keeping up with your antics over the years through reports from Saunders and I am very happy that I spoke to Mary Austin twice during the last year about family history. She was as delightful and entertaining as ever! Love to all, Cousin Degie

Merrily, Lee, Charles, Jerry and Suzanne, I am saddened by the news of your mother's passing. Mary Austin Hughes was the kindest and most generous person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Although I wasn't one of the fortunate ones to grow up with you all in Wytheville under the watchful eyes of Mary Austin and Brock, your mother always remembered me when we met in town, and always had something nice to say. Mrs. Hughes will be greatly missed in our community, though her memory will live on.

Dear Hughes Family,
Well, to all my cousin's Jim and I were so sorry when Craig called and told us of the passing of our sweet and loving Mary Austin. What a FINE woman she was and raised a mighty fine family along with Brock's help. We had such a blast at your all's house getting together for those family good eating times and laughing and talking all day. Mary Austin and Brock were both there for our family when our Dad passed, when our house burned and when we lost our mother. I have such lovely memories of both of them and will keep them in my heart for a long time.

You all, I'm so sorry that Jim and I can't be with you all at this sad time. You will be in our prayers and thoughts. Our love and sympathy goes out to each and every one of you. We love you cousin's always. Barkey and Jim.
