Lee K. Gardner

Lee K. Gardner, 83, of Vinton, died on Monday, February 23, 2009, after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's disease. She lived her life with grace and poise. She was a retired registered nurse supervisor of the operating room at Hahnemann Hospital, Washington, D.C., a life member of the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers, a loving wife and mother, dear friend, devoted member of the Vinton Baptist church choir, and a wonderful cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Curtis P. Gardner, D.D.S.; her parents, Ed and Mae Keiter; and her sisters, Elizabeth Parks, Naomi Jones, Mary Frances Jones. Surviving are her brother, Jim Keiter, of Perris, California; her sons, Robert, of Duluth, Minnesota, and Richard and wife, Cindy (Wintz), of Vinton; three grandsons, Brian Gardner and wife, Jackie (Conner), of Richmond, Christopher, of Radford, and Matthew, of Vinton; also many nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends. Visitations will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at Vinton Baptist Church, burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Gardner Memorial Cemetery, Hillsvilie, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry of the Vinton Baptist Church and the Southwest Virginia Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (540-297-5981).
