Nellie Powell Obituary

Nellie St. Clair Powell, 86, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on June 3, 1922 in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Clarence E. St. Clair and Myrtle Tucker St. Clair. On January 19, 1946 she married Thomas Aaron Powell in Bristol, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, and four sisters, Emily Comer, Catherine "Kitty" Parker, Betty Ruff, and Joyce Seymore. She is survived by a son, Wayne L. Powell and wife, Tammy, of Elliston; a granddaughter, Bethany Grace Powell; four brothers, Joe St. Clair and wife, Elaine, of Roanoke, Clarence E. "Red" St. Clair Jr. and wife, Cora, Howard Lee St. Clair and Billy St. Clair, all of Bedford. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009, in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Dooley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Burch-Messier Funeral Home 317 W. Main Street, Bedford, 540-586-7360.
