Florence King Obituary

Florence Poff (Boo Boo) King, 83, of Roanoke, Va., left her earthly life to go to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. She was reunited with her husband, Wilton King; as well as her parents, Noah and Mildred Poff; a daughter, Sandra K. Saunders; and a brother, Harold N. Poff. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James H. Brown; son-in-law, Gary Saunders; brother, Franklin D. Poff and his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Brian Saunders and wife, Julie, Alisha S. Osbourne and husband, Mike, Angie Saunders, and Ashley B. Austin and husband, Greg; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Brandon, Chase, Blake, Corey, and Hayven. She was a wonderful wife and an awesome mother and a devoted grandmother. She loved going to bingos at Springtree, ironing, quilting, but most of all cooking for her family. Sunday afternoons were special times when the entire family would get together for one of her marvelous Sunday meals and good family times. Everyone called her BOO BOO. This was the name given to her by her great-grandson, Chase Kincer, who at two years old struggled to understand why she was always falling and had so many BOO BOOS. From that point on he called her BOO BOO and so did everyone else! Diane Gallagher and Steven Poff, very special niece and nephew, were devoted in their visiting Florence. In July 2004, Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Facility became her new home after a long battle with health issues. In May 2005, they held the first Miss Springtree Pageant when she was crowned MISS SPRINGTREE. It was an honor of which she was very proud!! When you live at a facility for almost five years, it becomes more than just a facility, it becomes your new home with friends and family. The family would like to thank all of her many friends and the staff at Springtree for the care and friendship that they gave to BOO BOO. Special thanks to Dr. Fred Swartzendruber and Dawn, Dr. James D. Bailey and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the care and compassion they gave to Florence and her family. A funeral service will be conducted noon on Friday, March 6, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Roger Oakes officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Cindy,

My heart goes out to you. I know well of your love and dedication to your mom, and likewise of the pain of separation, which you are also very familiar with. Appreciating our lives together, we look towards our inevitable "better place" together too. You may feel a little weak right now, but you'll stay as strong as you've always been, and grow even more so, while you and your family cherish and build upon your countless wonderful memories.

Love ya,
Kaye
