Charles Stiles Obituary

Charles J. Stiles, 56, of Rocky Mount, Va., died at home in the arms of his wife on March 5, 2009. Charles, known as Charlie to those who knew and loved him, could often be found in his garage ready to talk "racing." He had a passion for race car parts and building stock cars. Charlie leaves behind his wife and adoring fan Shirley, who has been blessed to have shared a life with him for 36 years; his eldest son, Joshua Stiles, who resides in Florida; his youngest son, Seth Stiles and daughter-in-law, Tara, and granddaughter, Saige who live in Las Vegas, Nev.; an adoring mother-in-law, (Ma) Barbara Fontaine, of Florida; and a brother and his wife, Bill and Marilyn Titone, in Connecticut. Charlie lost his battle with cancer and the family would like to thank the Carilion Hospice Team for their support during a very difficult time. Charlie's wife and sons have been blessed by the support of good friends throughout Rocky Mount and FCHS "family" for helping them cope with their loss. The family will be celebrating the life of Charlie on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at their home in Rocky Mount, Va., from 1 to 5 p.m. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va., 540-483-3835

Shirley, The memories that came back to me when I heard of Charlie's passing. I am so sorry to hear this. When I think of the Crusaders, I think of Charlie and how he kept us all 'in line'. So many good memories of that time in my life. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Shirley - I am so sorry to have heard that Charlie passed. I think we all will have our memories of him as the heart and soul of the Stafford Drum & Bugle Corp.

My prayers are with you all. Charlie was a great person; easy to be around with a wonderful dry wit. Charlies love and continued participation in the world of racing were a great source of pride to his brother, Gary. There were many fond memories shared of the days when they worked together on stock cars as very young men. Prayerfully they are together again.

Charlie was a friend and a wonderful person. I worked with him for several years and I will always remember his smile and his passion for racing.

I was completely surprised to hear of Charlie's passing. I had no idea he had been ill. Charlie and I worked together at Weaver Mirror and were the last employees to leave. Although, it had been many years since I had the privilege of working with him, he was never forgotten. He was a superior man with a wonderful heart and great intelligence. I enjoyed working with him all those years ago and am certainly sadden by this news. May God bless you and your family at this particularly difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers.
