Dennis Towle Obituary

Dennis P. Towle Jr., 81, of Dublin, Va., passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Pulaski Community Hospital. Mr. Towle retired after 20 years in the United States Air Force where he served as a Medic. During his military career he was awarded the following medals, two Bronze Star Medals (awarded for Valor), Air Force Good Conduct Medals (2, 3 and 4 oak leaf clusters), Air Force Longevity Medals (3 and 4 oak leaf clusters), National Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry with Palm. He served several tours in Vietnam as well as numerous other military bases. After his Air Force retirement, Mr. Towle worked as a Security Guard at Pulaski Furniture in Dublin where he retired after 20 plus years. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Radford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Dennis Towle Sr. Surviving are his wife, Ethal N. Towle; stepchildren and their spouses, Eva and Paul Shanklin, Peggy Lee and Mark Hubble, and Lee Carter; grandchildren, Tracy and Michael Schmidt, Michelle Powell, Paul Shankle Jr., Jeffrey Hubble, Marcia Hubble, Joanna Hubble, Megan Brillheart, and Sam Carter; greatgranddaughter, Taylor Powell; siblings, Walter Towle and Gertrude Newman, and Evelyn Lossie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and other family members. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be in the new Veteran's Cemetery in Dublin at a later date. The family will gather at the home of Mark and Peggy Lee Hubble, 5169 Cypress Ave., Dublin. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
