Vyrl Marks Amos

Vyrl Marks Amos, 86, of Vinton, Va., passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. She was born in North Carolina on August 30, 1922. She retired from Sears Roebuck in Roanoke and was the former owner of the "Clothes Harbor" in Vinton. She was active in the American Business Women's Association, Christian Women's Association and the Eastern Star. She loved her "Lord" and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke. Surviving are her two sons, Buddy Parker and his wife, Helen, of Roanoke, and Ronnie Parker and his wife, Jody, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Lisa Taylor and husband, Andy, of Salem, Elizabeth Gray and husband, John, of Roanoke, Kamie McBrayer and husband, Hill, of St. Augustine, Fla., Becky Compton, of Charleston, S.C., Jamie Cade, of Pensacola, Fla., and Casey Parker, of Roanoke; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Polly Gainey, of Raleigh, N.C., and Avis Bergkvist, of Long Beach, Calif.; five nieces and nephews; the remainder of the Parker Family; and many close friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Roy Kanode officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
