Dear David, Michelle, and Jeff,
From the family of your mother's dear friend Lorraine Anderson: We just heard the news randomly from a friend of my uncle's who lives in Bedford. We last saw your dad at my parents' 50th anniversary in Danville in 2002. We have so many great memories staying at your house when on vacation from California. And who can forget going up Mill Mountain singing "Hot Town, Summer in the City"? Your dad was so kind to tote us around. My daughter Jerusha said her first word on your back deck - "football," and really started walking there. Love to you all,

Dear David, Michelle, and Jeff,
Please accept our sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear father. We all have the fondest memories of this wonderful person, always thoughtful, kind, and diplomatic. He had generosity of spirit and always searched for a way to find laughter. He was a wonderful husband, father, and in my case, cousin. He also had/has a wonderful family--his parents, Eunice McManaway (my father's sister) and Rucker, his brothers, and sister, Agnes and husband, Herman. The last time we saw him was at the McManaway family reunion exactly one year ago, how nice it was to be with all of you! Before that he drove 5 hrs to attend my daughter Ellen's wedding in Virginia Beach in 2004, now very nice that he would do that! We (including my sisters, Linda and husband, Jack, and Mary) had him over for breakfast the next morning and enjoyed his company so much. He also made the effort to attend my mother's funeral in 2003. All these efforts point to his wonderful sense of family. He is a good role model for us all and we will never forget him.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Woodson

My late husband and I have been so blessed to share a friendship with David. Distance created a problem, but we were always able to stay in touch. David was such a loving, thoughtful and respectful man with so much pride in his children. He would often reveal his political views which he kept quite to most. He would seek help on his housekeeping problems and his cooking skills which he did very well on his own. We so enjoyed talking over the fun we had thru the years. His death was a huge shock to me as he sounded so fit and healthy. May you children stay close and remember him as the wonderful father and the great friend to all.....

David, Michele, and Jeff, and families,
I am so sad to hear of your Dad's passing. As you know, he held a soft spot in our hearts, especially with his great stories. We will all miss him, but comfort comes by knowing you had 2 great parents, who will now meet again. Cherish the memories and know our hearts are aching like yours.
Sincere condolences,
Pete, Ellen and family
