Everett McConnell Obituary

Everett L. McConnell, 65, of Blue Ridge, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ryland P. and Mary Broughman McConnell. He served with the Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. McConnell was a member of Wildhurst Presbyterian Church and VFW Post #1841. He worked as a homebuilder for Capp Homes for more than 30 years, and retired from the Botetourt Correctional Center after 17 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Edna Ramsey McConnell; children, Tracy Hodges and husband, David, of West Virginia, Stacey Gamble, of Blue Ridge, and Dale McConnell and wife, Rikki Ann, of Goodview; grandson, Ryan Romanello; sisters, Eloise Hodges and Jean Johnson, both of Covington; brothers, Kenneth McConnell, of Buchanan, Wayne McConnell and wife, Bernice, of Fincastle, and Herman McConnell, of Covington; mother-in-law, Venia Ramsey, of Clifton Forge; brother-in-law, Paul Ramsey and wife, Drema, of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers a special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their many acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Wildhurst Presbyterian Church, 134 Wildhurst Avenue, Roanoke, Va. 24012. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. William Harris. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
