Mary Miller Obituary

Mary Jean Pugh Miller, 83, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009. She was born on September 6, 1925, in Roanoke, Va. and was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Pugh. Jean was a member of North View United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed attending the Chapel services at Brandon Oaks. She was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson High School and a graduate of Roanoke College, where she was a member of the Leta Gamma Sorority. Her generosity and kindness has touched the lives of many over the years and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Miller; two brothers, Nicholas William Pugh Jr. and Robert Beverly Pugh; sister, Anne Pugh Mohler; and brothers-in-law, Craig Sluss, E. J. Miller and Dave Ellis. She is survived by her son, Mark Miller and wife, Kristie; granddaughter, Megan Taylor Miller; sister, Beatrice Pugh Ellison; two half brothers, Tyler Pugh and Charles Lee Pugh; brother and sister-in-law, Hunter J. and Ann Miller; sisters-in-law, Ora May Sluss, Margaret Lee Miller and Peggy Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Brandon Oaks Nursing Center for their kind help and support during the many years that Jean lived there. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Memorial contribution may be made in Jean's name to American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Va. 24018 or Brandon Oaks, 3804 Brandon Ave. SW, Roanoke, Va.
