Virginia Thomas (Tommy) Keller, of Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Virginia was born in Buena Vista, Va., on January 30, 1925. She was a graduate of Southern Seminary and Junior College and Radford College. She earned her master's degree from the University of Virginia. Virginia taught mathematics for over 43 years. After three years teaching at Stewartsville High School, she taught the remainder of her career for the Roanoke City School System. After her retirement, Virginia volunteered her time to the Bradley Free Clinic and to her church, Greene Memorial United Methodist Church. Virginia was very devoted to her family, including to her mother, who she took care of for many years, in her home. Virginia enjoyed taking walks, picnics on the parkway, and baking. Her pound cakes were a favorite among her friends and family. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Otis Keller and Laura Louise Walker Keller; and by a brother, Guy O. Keller Jr. She is survived by three sisters, Louise K. Easton and her husband, Jack, of Charlottesville, Va., Jean K. Berkelman, of Melrose, Fla., and Phyllis K. Wampler, of Roanoke, Va. She is survived, also, by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Guy O. Keller (Beverly); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Buena Vista, Va., and Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke, Va. She was active in the United Methodist Women and the Paul Coffey Sunday School class. Special heartfelt appreciation to cousin, Harriette Mullins, for her devotion and friendship. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Virginia T. Keller may be made to your favorite charity. A remembrance celebration will be held at a later time.
