Ella Dana Obituary

Ella Maie Dana, 93, of Salem, Va., went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 29, 2009. Mrs. Dana was a long-time member of Melrose Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Mary Austin Hundley, of Ironto, Va. The widow of Samuel M. Dana, Ella was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Clarence, Grover, Ira, and Bubby Hundley; and special brother-in-law, Bill Kinsey. Mrs. Dana, a retired nanny, traveled many places while caring for "her children.
" From a spokesperson of Snyder Nursing Home:
Many tears were shed for the loss of our friend. Mrs. Dana truly made Snyder Nursing Home her home for the last 4 years. She was a friend to all residents and staff. She took pride in being involved in all the activity programs, specifically the craft projects such as the annual ginger bread house and Salem Fair exhibits. She cared for the facility flowers and plants, choosing what should be planted. These were many things she so enjoyed doing and for which was appreciated by all. She will truly be missed. She was a great part of Snyder."
Ella is survived by her sister, Mrs. Bunny Kinsey; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Eunice Hundley; and her niece, Marie Webley and husband, Buster. She also leaves behind her adoptive family, Mary Fitzgerald and her husband, Sands Woody, Kyle Fitzgerald and their children, Kyle and Katie Fitzgerald; as well as Ashley Logan, with husband, Willis. She is also survived by her special friend, Annie Robertson, of Colorado.
We will miss her gentle ways and ever-smiling face, but are content in knowing she is now tending to the gardens in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Snyder Nursing Home, The Memorial Flower Garden, 11 N. Broad Street, Salem, Va. 24153.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

Ella was the Queen at Snyder's -- so elegant, beautifully dressed and a Southern Belle. What will we do without her?

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
