Ruth Cundiff Obituary

Ruth Brown Cundiff, 82, of Wirtz, Va., died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. She was born on May 17, 1927, a daughter of the late Emmett Parker and Etta Brooks Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otis Boyd Cundiff; and brother, Russell Brown. Mrs. Cundiff retired from Elizabeth Arden with 27 years service and enjoyed farming tobacco and cattle. She fought a 21 year battle of Parkinson's disease. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nancy Cundiff; brothers, James Washburn Brown (Virginia), and Jackson Brown (Judy); sister, Nancy Poindexter (Glenn); and three nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, from the Cundiff Family Cemetery at the home with Mr. James G. Dye Jr. officiating. Special thanks to Gracie Peters, Eloise Bowman, Carol Frances, Patty Kone, Brenda King, and Good Samaritan Hospice, for their loving care and concern. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue / Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136-1494. Her family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va. www.florafuneralservice.com
