John Henderson Obituary

John K. Henderson, 86, of Damascus, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a son of the late Zeb Vance and Theodora Francis Henderson. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He was a retired investigator with the Washington County Department of Social Services. He was a member of the Damascus Citizens Club. He was a former member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and a former Chief of Police of Damascus. He is survived by his wife, Annie S. Henderson; four sons, Jack L. Henderson and wife, Barbara, of Damascus, John K. Henderson Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Damascus, Vance G. Henderson and wife, Patricia, of Mountain City, Tenn., and Jerry N. Henderson and wife, Betsy, of Roanoke; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Sunset Memorial Park with Warren Wilson officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery for the service. Pallbearers will be Tim Brown, Lannis Greene, Greg Caldwell, Tony Fritz, Kenny Fritz, and Steve Johnston.
