Stephanie Creasy Obituary

Stephanie Reed Creasy, 44, of Vinton, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Doug Reed; and grandparents, Ray and Marie Reed. Stephanie graduated from Alleghany High School in 1983, and was a faithful member of Parkway Wesleyan Church where she was a Preschool Teacher and Director of the Nursery. She was an avid photographer and also loved scrap booking and crafting. Stephanie loved life and was a ray of hope and sunshine to all those she came in contact with. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; however her greatest joy was spending time with her three boys and their dog, Maddie. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 18 years, Greg Creasy; her sons whom she treasured, Hunter, Justin and Adam. She is also survived by her mother, Becky Reed; brothers, Gregg Reed (Amy), and Chris Reed (Stacey); her loving granny, Edna Bennett all of Covington; father and mother-in-law, Al and Ann Creasy, of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Mitzi Davis, of Tampa, Fla., and Deanna Kurz (Steve), of Fredericksburg; two nephews, Jordan and Alex; one niece, Makenzie; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Parkway Wesleyan Church with Pastor John Ott and Pastor Mike Lauridsen officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Cancer Fund, c/o Parkway Wesleyan Church, 3645 Orange Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24012 or The Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Greater Roanoke Valley Affiliate, 7 Albemarle Ave., S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24016. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

I am honored to have met Stephanie through her volunteer work with the Greater Roanoke Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She was a woman of great strength. The true measure of Stephanie is that - in spite of her own difficult battle - she was committed to helping others and to finding a cure. Stephanie's story gives us even more determination to create a world without breast cancer. My heartfelt prayers are with all of you.
