David Lee Helms, 51, of Roanoke, Va., died Saturday, July 4, 2009. Graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in Franklin Memorial Park. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

My deepest sympathies to David's family. I attended Garden City Elementary and Jackson Junior with David, and remember him as a fun and friendly person. I ran into him about five years ago at Lowe's and we had a chance to chat a bit; he was one of those people you could talk to easily even after years of not seeing him. May God help heal your hearts and ease your pain at such a sad time.
