Mary Sparks Obituary

Mary Ann Overstreet Sparks, 59, of Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, Va., died on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at her residence. She was born on September 18, 1949, in Botetourt County, a daughter of Mary Gibson Overstreet Sisson Sparks, of Roanoke, and the late Lawrence Edward Overstreet. Mrs. Sparks was employed as a dietary aide at the Brain Center in Low Moor and was a member of Midway Christian Church. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, William Sparks. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Arnold W. Sparks, of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Gayle Chumney, of Richmond, and Kaitlin Classey, of Catawba; three sons, Robert Chumney and his wife, Candace, of Clifton Forge, Mike Chumney, of Blackstone, and Joshua Sparks, of Staunton; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Tammy Jessup, of Vinton; three brothers, Larry Overstreet, of Roxboro, N.C., Dennis Overstreet, of Clifton Forge, and Tommy Sisson, of Lynchburg; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel in Covington with the Rev. Mike Fisher officiating. The interment will be made 1 p.m. on Friday in the Old Dominion Memorial Park in Daleville. The family will receive their friends on Thursday evening, July 9, 2009, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Va.
