Thomas Newman Obituary
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Church of the Brethren. A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Dava Hensley officiating. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 982-2221.

Please accept my sympathy in the loss of one so dear to you. Tommy was a classmate of mine at WFHS & was always so friendly. My last memory of him was at our reunion as I watched him teaching others to Shag. I am blessed to read of his legacy to you & your children. Dear Judy, Leigh Ann, Jason and family, I wanted to send my sincere condolences in the loss of a great Husband, Father, Son, Uncle and Friend. Tom was always laughing and tried to turn every negative to a positive and I KNOW how much He will be truly MISSED. My heart aches for each of you. We were saddened to hear about Tom's
passing , I had worked with Tom for many years at Pleasants Hardware .
I always enjoyed Tom's enthusiasm and good nature . He was always there if someone needed a hand or a joke to cheer them up. We will greatly miss him . Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family .

My dearest cousin Judy. Am sorry to hear about Tommy and all that you yourself have been through. I think of all of you often and miss seeing and hearing from everyone.
I just know how happy Tommy is right now free of pain and laughing with all of the family members.

I new Tom as the consummate professional through his work with the PLeasants Hardware Co. He was always honest, sincere, and indeed passionate about his work. Tom was one of the greatest 'people persons' in the busiess. He always made you feel at home when you trapsed through his door, providing both industry and personal counsel depending on the need at hand. A good friend to me and to the DHI industry, both will miss him dearly.

Tommy was always so much fun and had a zest for life. When I think of Tommy I immediately remember his alter ego, CHUBBY! They will both live in our hearts forever. Judy, I am so sorry for Tom's passing. He was such a dear friend to my father I know. Maddie & I were able to see him when we were with daddy in the mountains this past fall. Maddie fell immediately in love with him and they both played Cars on her Nintendo. You are in many prayers and hearts right now....and again...I am truly sorry.

Judy and Lanna, I know you have lost a great joy in your life and he was a wondful man, esp. since I grew up with him also, he was like a second Dad to me. I know all of you are relieved that he is not suffering any longer and is in a better place but that doesn't make it any easier.
