Barbara June Bushman

Barbara June Bushman, 83, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009. She was born in Montana and came to Roanoke in 1951 and raised her family here. June was a member of Church of the Transfiguration in Fincastle, Va. She was a retired nurse and loved by all her patients and their families. Her love was working in her yard and meeting people. Her husband, William H. Bushman, Sr., whom she married in 1944, passed away September 6, 2000. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Charles Metts, of Circle, Mont., and Gerald Metts of Chillicothe, Ohio. Surviving are her children, William H. Bushman Jr. (Sharon), of Roanoke, and Jacquelyn B. Downey (Joseph), of Poland, Ohio; grandchildren, John Bushman (Christie), Jason Downey (Rachel), Matt Bushman (Dara), Jenger Schmersal (Jeff), and Mark Bushman; and seven greatgrandchildren, J.T., Coty, Bailey, Noah, Madison, Simon and Max. Also surviving are sisters, Mary Helen Wingo, of Roanoke, Jodi Mullins, of Fincastle, and Betty Gilman, of Missoula, Mont.; a dear friend and companion, Jim Franco; and a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 4504 Starkey Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24014 or to the Orchard Hills Church Youth Outreach Center, 6032 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019.
