Rachel Baker Obituary

Rachel Bayse Baker, 86, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Cecil M. Baker; a son, Jerry E. Baker and all of her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Baker was a longtime member of New Life Christian Ministries Pentecostal Holiness Church. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Sharon B. (Joe) Hartman, of Salem and Karen B. (John) Turner, of Roanoke; sons, Dr. Stephen M. (Judy) Baker, of Bradenton, Fla., Danny W. (Evelyn) Baker, of Midlothian and Chris E. (Judy) Baker, of Greer, S.C.; 12 grandchildren, Melinda (David) Setchel, Jeffrey (Charlene), Kimberly, Scott (Dawn), Bradley (Becky), Brent (Lena), Andrew (Brittaney) and Rachel Baker, Allen (Maggie) and Jonathan Hartman and Laura and J.T. Turner; step grandson, Scott Shelor and children, Reed, Britney and Ethan; seven greatgrandchildren, Joshua, Adam and Stephen Setchel, Noel, Paul, and Madyson Baker and Emily Claire Hartman; sisters-in-law, Esther Hopkins, Lucille Baker, Florence Bayse and Mildred Bayse; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Carrington Place and Gentle Shepherd Hospice and all the wonderful care givers for their loving, personal attention given their mom. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel. Pastor Walter Wood and Pastor Tony Atkinson will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
