Harrington Farmer Obituary

Harrington (H) Farmer, 65, of Salem, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2009. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War, was employed with the VA Medical Center in Salem, and loved softball, hunting, NASCAR, and helping people. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Louis and Dora Payne Farmer. His surviving family includes his wife, Sandra K. Farmer; daughter, Krystal Coleman and husband, Timmy; sisters, Ruby F. Mann and husband, Merritt, and Brenda F. Martin; brother, Junior Farmer; grandchildren, Kendra and Kenley Coleman; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many special friends. The family wishes to thank Kathleen Fitzpatrick-Moran, Dr. Choudary, and the nurses at the VA Medical Center for their loving care. A period of visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery. Deacon Richard Britt will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society for research at 2840 Electric Road Suite 106-A in Roanoke, Virginia 24018. Harrington worked for my dad, Bill Matherly in the late 60's and 70's at Bills Mechanical Service. He moved with us to Knoxville TN. He was a super sweet guy.

I worked with Mr.Farmer at the VAMC Salem in the Day Ambulatory Surgery unit. He was a pleasure to work with.He was a supportive staff member to me. He laughed and joked and kept spirits up.I will miss him alot. May God comfort the family because he has already given "Farmer" comfort and peace.
