Delphia Baker Obituary

Delphia T. Baker, 89, of Clintwood, Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at the Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn. Mrs. Baker was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She retired from Clintwood Elementary School where she taught the second grade and she attended Clintwood Baptist Church where she enjoyed Sunday school. During her spare time Mrs. Baker enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to fish, cook, and appreciate and love life itself. Mrs. Baker was a gifted seamstress and avid gardener. Her smile, animation and warm heart would fill any room with joy and laughter. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Nora Yates Turner. Also preceding her in death were three brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Alger Baker; and three children, one son, James Baker and wife, Rita, of Clintwood, Va.; daughter, Betty Baker, also of Clintwood, Va.; and daughter, Anna Tackett, of Roanoke, Va. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Kristin Addison and husband, Andreas, of Richmond, Va., Jerrod Tackett, of Roanoke, Va., and Hollie Baker, of Clintwood, Va. Mrs. Baker was cared for by two special people, Greg and Kathy Dotson. Her special friends are Quinton and June Brown, Becky Hackney, and Greg Baker; and a host of many other caretakers and friends. Funeral services for Delphia Baker will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Price officiating. Burial will follow at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Clintwood Funeral Home on Friday, August 14, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kurtz Alderman, Dr. Lurton Lyle, and Quinton Brown. Online condolences to the Baker family may be sent at clintwoodfuneralhome.com.
