Kenneth Moore Obituary

Kenneth DeWitt (Buster) Moore Sr., 84, of Lexington, Va., passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma Gibson Moore, and his family. Buster was born on February 21, 1925, in Lexington, Va., and was the son of the late Thomas DeWitt and Alice Irvine Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Moore Harper; and great-grandson, Nathaniel David Mays. He is survived by one son, Kenneth DeWitt "Bussie" Moore Jr. and wife, Darlene Tucker Moore; one daughter, Margie Moore Roberts and husband, Winkie Roberts; his five grandchildren, Thomas D. Roberts and wife, Ginger, Laurie Roberts Mays and husband, David Mays Jr., Teri Moore Schnabel and husband, Martin Schnabel, Kevin and Kris Moore; four great-grandchildren, Dustin and Brandon Mays, Brianna Roberts and Emerson Schnabel; brother-in-law, Marlowe Harper. Buster served in the United States Army during World War II, Crossing of the Rhine, with the 717th Armored Division. In 1946, he graduated from Augusta Military Academy. He also attended the University of South Carolina on a Baseball Scholarship. Buster was a longtime member of the Lexington Golf and Country Club. Buster and Norma built and owned the DeWitt's Keydet General Motel and Restaurant in 1962. He later managed the Lexington Howard Johnson then built and owned the Ramada Inn in Lexington before his retirement. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009, in the Chapel at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Va. with the Dr. William Klein officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice and Dr. Crews for the care and love that they gave to Dad. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, Va. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, Va.
