William Hockenberry Obituary

William (David) Hockenberry, 62, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2009. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife and partner in ministry, Joan Counts Hockenberry. David is survived by his sons, Bill and Ron Counts; his five grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason (Ashley), Robbie, Sarah and Ryan Counts; and one great-grandson, Cory Counts, all of Roanoke; nieces, Pam Webb and Marty Sutherland Cahoon; nephew, Bracken Hockenberry, of Alabama; and many loving family and friends. David proudly served in the United States Army as a Green Beret, in Vietnam. He was a Theologian and served as Chaplain at The Rescue Mission, where he was beloved by to those whom he ministered for his Lord. A service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the Rescue Mission Chapel at 3:30 p.m., officiated by his friend, Dr. John A. Sylvester-Johnson. In lieu of flowers, David's family asks that contributions in his memory be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
