Thelma Reed Obituary

Thelma Belle Whitt (Tommie) Reed, of Radford, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. She was born on June 6, 1919, in Cumberland, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Pete) Arthur Reed; and her sons, William Arthur Reed Jr. and Gary Wayne Reed. She leaves to cherish her memory, a very special friend and caretaker, R. Harvey Wade; and her church family at First Baptist Church in Radford, Va., where she was a member for 55 years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of WMU. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Hazel Godbey and Gladys Altizer; and several nieces and nephews. "Tommie" worked as a cloth inspector at New River Textiles for several years. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at DeVilbiss Funeral Home with the Reverend James Baucom and Dr. Paul Lane officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Radford, Va.
