Dorothy Lankshear Obituary

Dorothy "Gail" Lankshear, 86, of Chances Creek Road in Fancy Gap, Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Golden Living Center. She was born on January 28, 1923, to the late William and Charlotte Miller in Andover, Mass. She was a member of the United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir and also she was a devoted volunteer through NCH Hospital and Hospice in Naples, Fla. When Ron and Dorothy Gail were married in 1984, she became a sailor which she enjoyed and loved sailing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Freethy. She is survived by her husband, Ronald F. Lankshear, of the home; one daughter, Kathryn Lackey, of WinstonSalem, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, in the Twin County Funerals Sanctuary with the Rev. Keith Ledford officiating. Family will receive friends the same day one hour prior the service. Burial will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mayflower Congregational UCC, 2900 Country Barn Road, Naples, Fla. 34112 or to Twin County Hospice, P.O. Box 106, Galax, Va. 24333.
