Viola Barbour Obituary

Viola Gay McDaniel Barbour, 78, of 5240 Renan Rd., Hurt, Va., died Thursday, August 20, 2009. She was the wife of the late William (Bill) Gordon Barbour Sr. She was born in Pittsylvania County, April 11, 1931, a daughter of the late William Ward McDaniel and Mildred Lee McDaniel Overstreet. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. For over 50 years she was known as "the tax lady" but to those who knew her best, she was known as someone who loved and cared for everyone. She is survived by one son, William G. (Billy) Barbour Jr., of Gretna; one daughter, Sandra Gail Barbour, of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Reid McDaniel and his wife, Christa, of Lynchburg, and Fred McDaniel and his wife, Doris, of Easley, S.C.; one sister, Catherine McPeters and her husband, Rondell, of Altavista; two grandchildren, Melissa Barbour Motley and her husband, Kevin, and Christopher Barbour and his wife, Cara; two greatgrandchildren, Kate and Jenna Motley; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was known for her involvement in community activities and for her love of friends, family and church. A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Cundiff and the Rev. Matthew Speck with interment to follow in the Tucker Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista, and other times at the residence. We are so sorry about Viola,she was a very sweet and dear person.She always had such a sweet smile every time we saw her.She was a special lady and very sweet neighbor.
My heart goes out to you both.I just lost mom in June and my heart is so empty and sad. I miss her so bad so I know how you feel.Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Viola was a very kind lady, she used to do our familys taxes for years. She also used to go visit our cousin's at Renan, Bryce and Francis Moschler. They thought the world of her.
